The ideal candidate will share the Colleges' commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. This position is a "pool" position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach all courses offered in the microbiology curriculum.
  • Assist in curriculum revisions and new course development.
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours.
  • Maintain expertise in current technologies.
  • Serve as a member of division and college committees.
  • Perform other professional duties as required by contract and general institutional needs.Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Master's or above in any biological science OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's or above in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.Conditions of EmploymentPrior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
  • Submit official transcripts.
  • Submit verifications of prior employment.
  • Provide satisfactory references.
  • Successfully clear a background check.
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Approval of employment by the SMCCCD Board of Trustees.
  • Provide a certificate of Tuberculosis exam for initial employment.
