Job Description Summary: We are seeking a talented Lead Principal Engineer to join our AI/ML Platform and Solutions organization. In this role, you will design and lead projects end-to-end, architecting innovative and cloud-agnostic data solutions. You will collaborate with global, cross-functional teams from both Business and Technology domains to meet complex business demands. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and creative problem-solving abilities are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Additionally, you will lead and mentor team members, fostering their growth and development.

We are on a mission to revolutionize commerce globally by connecting consumers and merchants with personalized shopping experiences. We are seeking a highly motivated, self-starter Senior ML Engineer to join our AIML Engineering team to help achieve this mission. This role will help shape the next generation of checkout at PayPal impacting over 400+ million consumers and 30+ million merchants worldwide by creating AI/ML foundations and capabilities that deliver a delightful and personalized shopping and checkout experience.

Your day-to-day

As one of the most senior engineers in the team, you will be the go-to person for any technical issues and decisions internally, and partner with other teams and partners representing the team within a globally distributed org

- Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines and architectures to support data collection, transformation, and integration from various sources.

- Utilize advanced SQL and programming skills to query, manipulate, and manage large datasets effectively. Ensure data integrity, optimize database performance, and enhance database operations.

- Deploy, monitor, and maintain Machine Learning models and build AI Products in production environments, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

- Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements, provide technical support, and ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of data systems.

- Lead and mentor team members, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high standards of engineering excellence.

- Demonstrate effective communication skills by clearly articulating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Facilitate seamless collaboration with cross-functional teams from Business and Technology domains to align project goals, gather requirements, and drive successful project outcomes.

What do you need to bring
Qualifications:

Solid track record of over-achieving engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets in high volume, innovative and fast-paced high-pressure environment; proven results in delivery on platform products.
Masters / bachelor's in computer science, Computer engineering, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Information Systems, or related disciplines, with technical expertise in one or more of the above-mentioned areas or equivalent practical experience.
Strong proficiency in machine learning concepts, algorithms, and techniques, with hands-on experience in developing and deploying machine learning models.
Expert in multiple Programming/scripting languages, i.e. Unix/Linux Shell Scripting, Python, Java, Scala.
Expertise in Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Kafka.
Proficiency in SQL, ETL, database design
Good understanding of NoSQL database like HBase, Redis, Aerospike.
Good understanding of distributed systems, data streaming, complex event Processing, NoSQL solutions for creating and managing data integration pipelines for batch and Real Time data needs.
Proficiency in machine learning libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.
Expertise with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience in Azure is a plus
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML technology and industry trends, and leverage this knowledge to build enhanced capabilities.
Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and alignment driving skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner
Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire, mentor, and empower team members to achieve their full potential.

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $107300 to $259600
